AnnouncrBot

The magical and handy AnnouncrBot has one job… to play sounds.

You had ONE job!!

While running, it listens for signals coming from the Announcr server that it should play a payload containing one or more audio files. It can also delay the audio when requested, and will optionally notify the Announcr server once it plays a payload.

Download and Install

Get AnnouncrBot here.

It can be setup and run on any Windows PC, Mac, Android, or Amazon FireTV Device.

Initial Run

When you download it and run it, you will be greeted with a Bot Name screen.

Running without a Location

It’s possible for some apps to communicate with your AnnouncrBot just by using its Device FID which can be seen in the upper right hand corner. So if you are just trying AnnouncrBot out without creating and assigning it to a location, that’s the FID you want to share with people.

Registering AnnouncrBot to a Location

AnnouncrBot needs to be assigned to a location in order to handle events sent to a location. To do this:

Open up the Announcr Mobile app
Go to My Locations
Choose the Location you wish to assign AnnouncrBot to, or create a new location.
Click on ‘Devices’
Click ‘Add Device’
Enter the Register Code being shown in AnnouncrBot into the Device Registration input box
Click ‘Test’ to make sure you entered the code in correctly
Click ‘Register Device’
Done!

Now AnnouncrBot, when running, will handle all events being thrown its way while not in Do Not Disturb mode.

If it stops responding to events, just restart it.

When AnnouncrBot is running, it will look similar to the above.

In the lower right hand corner is a timer telling you how long it’s been running.
In the upper right hand corner is a Device FID, which is a unique identifier for AnnouncrBot running on your computer.
In the lower left hand corner is a version number

A Recent Events list will be shown on the left, and will show the last 50 events sent to the location. As new trigger actions take place, you will see them here. You can click on any event in the list to replay its audio payload.

Mute Events still come in, but sound is off

Do Not Disturb The Do Not Disturb function disables any audio announcements being sent to the location or the location’s registered AnnouncrBot. It cuts off all audio announcements from even arriving, and can be toggled on/off either from AnnouncrBot or from the Location screen in the Announcr App under Settings.

Allow Direct Messages Similar to Do Not Disturb, allow direct messages can be toggled from either AnnouncrBot or the Announcr App. It prevents a direct message from being sent to AnnounctBot.

Device and Location FID On the upper right, you will note that there is a Device FID and a Location FID being shown. These are the unique IDs for the device and location. They are 12-digit numbers in 3 groupings of 4 numbers, with a ‘D’ or an ‘L’ in front.

You can share the Location FID with people to make it easy for them to set you as one of their favorites.

Each instance of AnnouncrBot is treated like a connected speaker, and so is considered to be a device.

Reset Device If you would like a brand new device code to register AnnouncrBot with a different location, hit the button which says ‘Reset Device’. You will get a new Device Registration Code on the screen and be able to add it to a different location. It will no longer be associated with the previous location.

Running on Startup

Windows

Select the Start button and scroll to find the app you want to run at startup.
Right-click the app, select More, and then select Open file location. This opens the location where the shortcut to the app is saved. If there isn’t an option for Open file location, it means the app can’t run at startup.
With the file location open, press the Windows logo key + R, type shell:startup, then select OK. This opens the Startup folder.
Copy and paste the shortcut to the app from the file location to the Startup folder.
